UHCL is recognized as a national model of an interactive partnership university. The University's cooperative efforts with area petrochemical, aerospace, high-technology and medical industries serve as a forum for its faculty scholars to interface with industry experts. UHCLs reputation as a national model for cooperative ventures among private industry, academia and government agencies helped lay the foundation for a team of institutions led by Texas A&M to capture NASA technology for commercial applications. This partnership orientation includes community colleges such as San Jacinto Community College, which has an extension center at Clear Lake High School. Degrees awarded include the associate of applied science and associate of arts, as well as the certificate of technology. The college offers approximately 100 programs, about 60 of which are technical, as well as many continuing education courses.
College of the Mainland College of the Mainland (COM) is a comprehensive community college with a 34-year tradition of academic and workforce innovation. With its main campus 15 minutes down the Gulf Freeway in Texas City, a satellite campus in League City and an online presence as part of the Virtual College of Texas, COM is one of the most diverse academic, workforce and continuing education centers on the Gulf Coast. The College's Process Technology program is a national model that has been recognized by the National Alliance of Business and the National Council on Occupational Education for innovation in workforce education partnerships. COM is also an authorized Macromedia training center with many Adobe classes as part of its state-of-the-art multimedia graphic arts program. The College also offers Cisco Academy computer-based training and Novel and Windows NT networking classes. University parallel credit classes in arts and humanities, math and science, social science, business and computers, health care and public service careers offer transferable college credits at a fraction of the cost of a university in a comfortable, student-friendly setting.
ITT Technical Institute The Houston South ITT Technical Institute offers classes year-round with convenient breaks provided throughout the year. Classes are generally offered in four-hour sessions, five days a week, in the morning, afternoon and evening. This class schedule offers students flexibility to pursue part-time employment opportunities. The curricula have been designed to blend traditional academic content with applied learning concepts to help graduates begin to prepare for career opportunities in various fields involving technology. MTI MTI, a computer training school operating in Houston for 20 years, recently received recognition from Dell Computers, naming it the No. 1 technical school by Dell's university relations department. The computer systems technology degree plan teaches students to repair hardware, complete maintenance and work in the networking aspect of computer systems. A two-year community college offering affordable, academic and technical-based courses to help students attain personal and professional goals, preparing them for the job market or higher institution learning. The college supports the economic growth of the South Belt, Ellington Field and NASA communities with customized partnerships committed to prosperity.
