Fishing
The Gulf Coast's yields of redfish, bass, trout, flounder and other catches make fishing a diverse adventure. Inland catches are among the best in the U.S. Resident fishing licenses are modestly priced. Most fishing-related businesses sell them. The state also offers lifetime licenses. Scuba Diving
Houston and the Clear Lake area offer many opportunities for the recreational diver. There are many direct flights to world class dive spots in the Caribbean that are within a few hours flight. The local dive clubs provide a good opportunity to meet divers and participate in local events and dive trips. Locally, diving can be done in fresh water like Lake Travis or the Blue Lagoon (Conroe) or offshore at the rigs or the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary.
SEASPACE is the Southwest USA’s premiere Adventure Exposition with more than 200 booths with experts on various outdoor sports and exotic travel destinations . Although SCUBA is the primary focus, there also is information on outdoor sports like kayaking, sailing and surfing. A huge swimming pool built for visitors who come equipped with a swimsuit and towel to try out scuba diving, snorkeling, and a variety of paddle sports. SEASPACE is held the first weekend in June and is sponsored by the Houston Underwater Club.
BAY AREA DIVERS - Clear Lake area dive club. In 1974, a few members of the NASA Recreational Organization decided to start a dive club for the public and non-NASA personnel. Since that time, Bay Area Divers has grown tremendously and yet still maintains the closeness of the original group. It is an active group of fun-loving divers who are out to have a good and safe time diving. Bay Area Divers has made a favorable mark on the Houston/Galveston area diving community with it's annual SCUBA divers flea market, frequent dive trips and community programs.

Water Recreation The Clear Lake Area's location on the Texas Gulf Coast provides plenty of open water for boating, skiing, sailing, fishing, swimming or even watching distinctive sunsets. Waterways have ample boat launches, picnic areas, campsites and other facilities. See Parks & Nature 21 area marinas offer more than 7,000 slips. Both power and sailing vessels are available for charter and short-term rental. Jet skis, wind surfers, canoes, water ski equipment and parasailing are also plentiful. Galveston Bay party fishing trips are popular with families and businesses. Many residents enjoy 70 miles of Gulf Coast beaches within an hour's drive. Enjoying a boat on cool water is only one way local people take their minds off summer heat. Miles of clean, open water keep the region popular for boating and water skiing. Waterside restaurants and convenience stores in marinas provide plenty of diversion for hungry family members. Sailing continues to grow in popularity, evidenced by the number of catamarans, sail boards and other small vessels on Clear Lake.
