The Texas A&M Sea Grant survey reports more than 7,000 boat slips on Clear Lake, and more are being built every year. The marinas on Clear Lake lead the state along many lines. Public facilities invite shoreline picnics, fish fries and camping. Boat ramps, fishing bait and fueling locations are conveniently available throughout the area. Clear Lake is a 1728-acre body of water that feeds into Galveston and Trinity Bays. Part of the popularity of Clear Lake is that it is a large expanse of water that offers year round access to sailing and fishing. You don't have to own your own boat to join the fun. Power boats, jet skis, windsurfers, canoes and sailboats are available for rental at several locations. The Gulf Coast's yields of redfish, bass, trout, flounder and other catches make fishing a diverse adventure. Inland catches are among the best in the U.S. Resident fishing licenses are modestly priced. Most fishing-related businesses sell them.
